The event was attended by RISS experts, as well as leading American scientists from academic and research institutions in Russia: M. Suchkov (MGIMO), D. Suslov (HSE), I. Timofeev (RIAC), P. Sharikov (Institute for US and Canadian Studies) Also present at the round table was A. Korobkov, Professor of Political Science at the University of Tennessee.
In his welcoming speech, the chief analyst of RISS, V. Milovidov, noted that the administration of J. Biden will function in a highly charged environment in American society. The presidency of D. Trump has repeatedly intensified the processes of polarisation in the United States, which also affected the level of trust that citizens have in the political system and state institutions.
The participants of the round table stressed that Biden's foreign policy priorities in many areas remain consistent with the current head of the White House. This is likely to affect Russian-American relations, which have no prospects for normalisation under the new administration of the US president.
As a result of the event, it was decided to continue studying this topic, including in the format of working meetings and publications of joint research materials.
