Activities of US Think Tanks Discussed at RISS

A round table dedicated to the discussion of the main activities of American policy institutes was held on 26 February at RISS

It was attended by the Scientific Director of ISCRAN, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Rogov, Director of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences Fyodor Voitolovsky, Director of the Institute of International Studies at MGIMO University Andrey Sushentsov, Head of the Department of Applied International Analysis at MGIMO University Tatiana Shakleina and Associate Professor of this Department Igor Istomin, as well as RISS experts.

In his welcoming speech, RISS Director Mikhail Fradkov drew attention to the fact that the expert community is still discussing the effectiveness of the US policy institutes, as well as the degree of their impact on the development of domestic and foreign policy decisions. Many think tanks have become more active in applying modern technologies of analysis and forecasting.

In their reports, the participants of the meeting emphasized that the administration of Joe Biden began to interact with American policy institutes more closely than President Donald Trump did. There is an increase in the lobbying component in the activities of think tanks and their attempts to promote custom-defined political content in the United States through mass media have become more frequent.

It was decided to continue studying the activities of American policy institutes, also in the format of meetings for preparation of joint publications and research materials, following the results of the round table.
