Valery Krasnyuk, leading RISS expert, Doctor of Medical sciences, believes that the latest breakthroughs in the field of vaccine prevention made by Russian scientists open a ‘window of opportunity’ for vaccinating, protecting oneself and loved ones from a dangerous disease and return to a regular lifestyle. A wide campaign for free vaccination has been launched in Russia. Citizens have the opportunity to choose between two domestic developments - Sputnik V and EpiVacCorona vaccines - at multiple vaccination stations.
The World Health Organization and the European Medicines Agency are currently finishing the examination of Sputnik V. However, an evidence testifying to the safety and effectiveness of the Russian vaccine has already been published in The Lancet, the authoritative international medical journal. Meanwhile, the general public still knows little about this. Unfortunately, Russian scientists do not pay enough attention to advertising their work, promoting their discoveries and successful trials in mass media.
This issue is all the more important because a movement of anti-vaxxers guided by selfish considerations and prejudices has appeared in Russia. Those who oppose vaccinations risk not only their lives, but also the health of others.
