RISS Considered Issues of Digitalization of the Arctic

A round table chaired by RISS Director M.Fradkov titled Digital Transformation of the Arctic: Foreign Experience and Russian Practices took place on May 26th in the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies

Among the round table participants was E.Kudryashova, rector of Lomonosov Arctic (Northern) State University, V.Ikonnikov, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Arkhangelsk Region, NARFU experts, experts from the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian Arctic magazine, and the Fund for the Preservation and Development of the Solovetsky Archipelago, and representatives of regional businesses.

In his foreword, the RISS Director highlighted the importance of digitizing the Arctic space, especially considering that Russia is now Chair of the Arctic Council. The event touched on such issues as prospects of transport infrastructure in the Arctic, the implementation of digital technologies for achieving sustainable development goals in the region, as well as modernization of telecommunications infrastructure in the region and its information resources.

Members of the round table have expressed their desire to cooperate with the RISS to utilize its expertise with regards to the issues facing the Arctic, while also keeping in touch with the governments of the Russian Arctic regions.
