On November 23, the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies hosted a round table on the "Peculiarities of the Domestic Politics in the United States After the Congressional Midterms." RISS Director M.E. Fradkov chaired the event.

The event was attended by N.M. Travkina, Head of the Center for Domestic Policy Studies, Institute for U.S. and Canadian Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, S.M. The participants discussed the balance of power in the House of Representatives and the Senate, prospects for a divide along ideological lines in the Democratic and Republican parties, and the influence of the new Congress on U.S. foreign policy. The experts concluded that the midterm results showed an increasing polarization in U.S. society.
