Ukrainian MP A.Derkach made public leaked audio recordings of phone conversations held by former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and former president Petro Poroshenko. In Biden-Poroshenko conversation, they discuss the appointment of a new Ukrainian Prosecutor General. “This confirms a well-known fact. Ukraine has always been under the control of the United States. The leaked phone calls just proved this,” RISS expert Sergey Mikhailov said.
US democratic mass media in their best traditions immediately criticized the source of information. The Washington Post said that Derkach was a former KGB officer and had past links to Russian intelligence; a Russian spy who was trying to infiltrate US policy and was connected to Trump's lawyer, R.Giuliani. According to this logic, it turns out that Giuliani also worked for KGB, Mikhailov underscores.
In 2016, Biden said that he told Poroshenko that Ukraine would not receive $1 billion in loan guarantees unless Shokin was removed and the prosecutor general’s office was reformed. Later, Republicans accused Biden of being a corrupt political insider and acting not in the interests of the United States. The fact is that the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine was conducting a preliminary investigation into a series of serious crimes committed by the owner of the natural gas company Burisma Holdings, where Biden’s son Hunter served on the board.
RISS expert also draws attention to the fact that a Senate committee issued a subpoena as part of the Republican-led investigation into the Ukrainian energy firm that also hired former Vice President Joe Biden's son. “It is clear that it is far from a coincidence that Derkach, who worked with Trump's lawyer, suddenly made public leaked audio recordings of phone conversations, and the next day a Senate committee ‘unexpectedly’ initiated an investigation. Obviously, the Republicans will try in every possible way to use this case as part of their election campaign to blacken Biden's reputation,” Mikhailov concluded.
