RISS expert at SREB and EAEU in Harbin

On October 10-11, Harbin (China) hosted International Forum of the Analytical Center of Chinese-Russian economic cooperation «International Partnership in the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Eurasian Economic Union Projects», organized by the heads of Heilongjiang province, PRC Academy of Public Sciences, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation and the Eurasian Economic Commission.

The conference was attended by more than 50 international scientists and public figures from China (Heilongjiang Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, Institute of Eurasia of the Center for Development Studies under the PRC State Council, Institute of Russia, Easten Europe and Central Asia of the Academy of Social Studies, Center for Russian and Central Asian Studies under Shanghai Academy of International Studies, PRC Institute for International Studies, etc.) and Russia (RISS, Institute for Economic Research FEB RAS, Institute of Economics and Industrial Engineering SB RAS, Saint Petersburg State University, Moscow State University). RISS was represented by the head of the Sector of Foreign Countries Economy of the Center for Economic Research S.V.Karataev.

Participants made reports on various aspects of cooperation between China and Russia, including cooperative work in the two projects: Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Silk Road Economic Belt (SREB). Special attention was paid to the prospective use of the combining tools in large transport and energy projects, as well as to the issues of transborder cooperation on the regional level between Russian Far Easten entities and Chinese North-Easten provinces.

S.V.Karataev reported on the «Oppotunities to combine constructions of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Silk Road Economic Belt in finance and investment sphere». The emphasis was laid on requirement for more active cooperation between EAEU countries and China in finance and investment sphere within conjugation mechanisms. The objective of the joint work is to get more oppotunities for transborder capital flow between SREB and EAEU states, as well as getting easier access to PRC investment resources for entities of Eurasian Economic Union. Besides, financial cooperation can become important for development of national EAEU stock markets due to new participant countries situated along the Silk Road Economic Belt.
