The Memorial cross in commemoration of the soldiers of the Great War was restored and consecrated in Bashkiria

One of the first monuments in Ufa province, Memorial cross in commemoration of the First World War was built in Pechenkino village in August, 1915. It was set up during the Great Retreat, after the Emperor Nikolay II became the head of the army. There was a chapel next to the cross, but both of the monuments were destroyed in Soviet times.

On the initiative of indifferent to the past local residents, the Memorial cross in commemoration of the soldiers of the Great War was restored 100 years later. The unveiling and consecration of the monument took place on August 30, 2015. The event was attended by historians and journalists from Ufa, village head V. Klimin, historian of the Ufa diocese P. Egorov, journalist V. Agte, journalist and creator of the Internet project "Russian holy faces" S. Komkov. RISS expert R. Rakhimov drew the attention of those present to the fact that the villagers took part in the Great War in a difficult period for Russia. «We should follow our ancestors’ example of their confidence in the bright future,» said Rakhimov.

Archpriest Oleg Maksimenko consecrated the cross and held a prayer service to mark the beginning of school year. A salute in memory of the fallen soldiers was given after the service.
