The USA is trying to rally the world against China, RISS expert Vyacheslav Kholodkov says. “The US President will manipulate the American society by using its fears of China to win the upcoming election. In the case of Trump's victory further confrontation between Washington and Beijing will only deteriorate more rapidly,” he added.
Kholodkov also recalled that recently US Senator Lindsey Graham had introduced a bill on sanctions against the PRC for the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. “The US imposed high duties on Chinese goods (which is a fairly common practice in international trade), but now Washington is already discussing the introduction of sanctions against China,” he said.
It must be noted that even in the context of the pandemic, America continues to stir up confrontation with China, RISS expert points out. The United States recently froze an agreement on international cooperation in the fight against coronavirus. When discussing this resolution in the UN, serious tensions between Washington and Beijing also arose. Beijing insisted on introducing a clause in the resolution on the role of the World Trade Organization, while Washington strongly objected to this.
The White House is also actively involving its allies in the fight against Beijing. Recently mass media published a “leaked” report of the intelligence alliance “Five Eyes” comprising Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States with the accusations against China.
“But China is not a country that allows others to manipulate it. Beijing promptly took reciprocal measures by imposing high duties on imports of certain agricultural products from Australia. PRC is also actively discussing the possibility of selling American treasuries. This may hit dollar tough,” Kholodkov said.
As for the economy, Kholodkov underscored that over the past February and March, Chinese economy had lost 7% of GDP compared to the same period in 2019. Now China has already begun to recover, and the second quarter indicators are expected to be much better. At the same time, according to former adviser to President S.Bannon, the US economy in the second quarter may fall by 30%. Moreover, Bannon warned of huge and unprecedented unemployment.
“America is now in a desperate situation. But this desperate situation means a blow to the entire world economy. We may be witnessing that the world economy next year will enter a stage of an unprecedented severe crisis since the Second World War. We can only hope that everything will end well,” RISS expert concluded.
