Integration of women politicians into governmental structures is of great importance in the United States, RISS expert Ilya Kravchenko points out in the analytical article of RISS journal “National Strategy Issues”. Their representation in various public agencies has been increasing during the recent years. However, D.Trump’s victory in the 2016 elections has provoked a renewal of interest to that issue in the U.S. political discourse, which has been exploited by partisan elites especially in the Democratic party.
Trump's personality has become an important factor in the politicization of the gender issue. After Trump's inauguration, the American society saw the rise of the women's movement that organized mass protests. The protesters chanted anti-Trump slogans and opposed President Trump due to his sexist remarks. A lot of Democrats and some Republican were solidary with the protesters. “The million-strong demonstrations have signaled that the women's movements backed by the various financial and political circles will use the “Trump factor” to their advantage. This has become evident due to different protests aimed at lowering the rating of the Trump administration. This is particularly relevant in the run-up to the presidential elections in 2020,” RISS expert underscored.
Kravchenko drew attention to the fact that the “women's issue” was also actively used by American expert and analytical structures to their advantage. Being an effective tool for increasing their rating and garnering the attention of progressive society, the creation of special research programs to analyze the activities of women politicians and the organization of various events are often replaced by the promotion of American national interests, he concluded.
