The prospects for Arctic projects were discussed in Arkhangelsk

During the international forum «Arctic projects – today and tomorrow», held on October 29-30, 2015 in Arkhangelsk, were discussed problems of economic development of Russia's Northern regions, associated with the implementation of oil and gas and infrastructure projects in the Arctic and shipping along the Northern Sea Route. The organizers of the third scientific-practical event traditionally were the government of the Arkhangelsk region, the Association of Oil and Gas Suppliers «Sozvezdye» and the Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Federal University.

This year the forum focused not only on implementing Arctic oil and gas and infrastructure projects, but also on the problems and prospects of development of the Northern regions. Much attention was paid to the main directions of transport infrastructure and logistics development in AZR (Arctic zone of Russia); development of navigation along the Northern Sea Route (NSR); and development of the various transportation projects.

The forum participants emphasized the importance and practical significance of the Arctic project as a basis for the realization of economic and industrial potential of the Arkhangelsk and Murmansk regions, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous district and other regions of the Arctic zone.

The event was attended by the representatives of the Federation Council, the administration and the government of the Arkhangelsk region, the Nenets Autonomous District Administration, the Advisory Council on the Arctic and Antarctic under the Federation Council of the Russian Federation and others.

RISS was represented by deputy head of the Center for Economic Research A. Nikulin and head of research programs of the Arctic Regional Information-analytical Center I. Sivobrova, who took part in the discussions at the session on transport and logistics in the Arctic and on the problems of development of comprehensive monitoring of staffing requirements for the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation.

According to the results of the event the organizers will prepare recommendations for the Business Council of the State Commission on Development of the Arctic. The overall result of the forum – despite the crisis, strategic projects in the Arctic will be implemented even more intensively.
