European politicians expect when Trump leaves the political Olympus

President Trump's speech to the UN General Assembly signals that the United States behaves in the same way as before: as a leader who doesn't take into account a different opinion or criticism. The USA behaves like a world hegemon, RISS expert Ilya Kravchenko said.

The message that the US should be an example for the international community, that other countries should unite with America and follow in the footsteps of the US policy and the American way of life, represents the old idea of its exclusivity, messianism and other features of the specific American culture. All these ideas are the basis of the policy of the world hegemon, the analyst stated. The USA is trying to show the world that it is the best. American politicians say that "of course, we do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone, but rather to let it shine as an example for everyone to follow." Whether this is a tough policy or a soft one is another question. But this doesn't exclude the fact that the United States remains the dominant global power and American exclusivity hasn't disappeared," he pointed out.

In expert's opinion, reaction of the international community to Trump's speech signals that the Washington's position is not supported. The US allies are beginning to be as skeptical as possible. For example, E.Macron has repeatedly stated that D.Trump behaves incorrectly. Trump has also spoiled his relationship with Merkel. "However, all the politicians understand that Trump is a leader. He may be an unrestrained and unpredictable leader, but, like any other US President, now is holding an elected political office," RISS expert concluded.
