The RISS Director held a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Russia

RISS Director M. Fradkov held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Russia Mr. Li Hui on April 10, 2017 in the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies.

During the conversation, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of Russian-Chinese cooperation. As noted by both parties, recent tragic events have shown that the fight against terrorism is gaining increasing importance. Cooperation between China and Russia in this field is currently very successful and will continue to develop in a similar manner in the future. The parties pointed out that such cooperation is one of the key areas in further deepening and development of relations of comprehensive strategic interaction and partnership between our countries.

Commenting on the US Missile Attack on Syrian Air Base, Mr. Li Hui stressed that the settlement of the Syrian conflict is possible only through peaceful and political means on the basis of respect for sovereignty and the will of the Syrian people.

The experts also raised questions regarding the situation on the Korean peninsula. They expressed mutual opinion that the decision of Seoul and Washington to place on the territory of South Korea American missile defense systems just increases the tension on the Korean Peninsula and does not contribute to the maintenance of peace and stability.

It was noted that in the conditions of growing international tension, both sides must continue to use the existing possibilities in the interests of strengthening regional and global security.

RISS Director stressed that Russia-China cooperation in all spheres, including scientific, is an important factor of stability in the region and around the world. The parties have reached an agreement on the extension and deepening of scientific contacts of RISS with Chinese partners.
