Major NATO exercises to launch in Norway

The "Trident Juncture-2018", which will be held on October 25, is the largest NATO exercise since the end of the Cold War, RISS expert Sergey Ermakov pointed out. NATO annually carries out more than 250 military exercises, including serious fire maneuvers of the armed forces. The Alliance is planning to deploy 50 thousand soldiers, 250 aircraft, and 65 vessels from more than 30 nations during its exercises. The political scientist noted that this time the reason of military exercises was changed. "The military actually recognize that they will work out measures to counter Russia. As NATO generals say, they are simulating a counterattack against Russia in order to protect Norway."

Norway, Finland, and Sweden are joining forces for a large air exercise. The military will also practice anti-submarine warfare training against Russia. The exercises will be held by James G. Foggo III, a US Navy admiral who currently serves as commander of US Naval Forces Europe. RISS expert recalled the old problems of the Alliance related with Faroe-Iceland ridge when the US and NATO also fought against Soviet submarines. All these Cold War plans are being restored and implemented in a new form. The exercises will also include cyberspace operations.

S.Ermakov is concerned about the fact that NATO, without any hesitation, states that the current exercises are intended as a measure to intimidate and deter Russia. NATO’s military activity near Russia's borders has reached a high level. It has accused our country of alleged cascade military exercises. But the Alliance constantly conducts large-scale military exercises around the Russian borders, which are linked to the strategic plan.
