Meeting of the RISS Director with the Ambassador of Pakistan in Russia

RISS Director M. Fradkov received Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Russia Mr. Qazi M. Khalilullah on April 17, 2017.

During the conversation, experts discussed topical issues of international politics, prospects of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Pakistan, and the interaction of RISS with think tanks in Islamabad.

Mr. Qazi M. Khalilullah stressed that the Pakistani leadership attaches great importance to development of strong partnership with Russia, which is currently characterized by mutual understanding, interaction in multilateral formats, and common interests on important regional and international issues, particularly in tackling drug trafficking and terrorism.

The experts noted the forthcoming full-fledged Pakistan’s membership in the Shanghai cooperation organization (SCO) as an example of the empowerment of Pakistan's participation in regional policy in a multilateral format. Mr. Khalilullah said that the SCO is a good platform for interaction between Member States, as summits provide an opportunity to hold bilateral talks on key international aspects of the policy. The meeting participants expressed their intention to develop mutually beneficial cooperation and discussed plans of Russia-Pakistan scientific cooperation in the current year.

The parties also expressed general opinion that RISS’ contacts with Pakistani think tanks contribute to a better understanding between countries on issues of geopolitics and the efforts of experts have created a good basis for further development of relations.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Head of Mission Ata-ul-Munim Shahid, Head of Centre for Asia and the Middle East Anna Glazova, Assistant Director for International Relations Anna Dudar.
