Delegation of the Royal Thai Armed Forces visits RISS

A representative delegation of the Strategic Studies Center of the National Institute for Defense Studies of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Supreme Command Headquarters headed by Lieutenant General Surasit Tanadtang, Deputy Institute Director, Head of Center, visited RISS on July 12, 2016.

RISS was represented by Anna Glazova, Deputy RISS Director, Head of Centre for Asia and the Middle East, and research fellows of the Centre.

The delegation of Thailand included representatives of the Center, Institute, and military attaché of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand in Russia. This Center is a part of Track II Network of ASEAN Defense and Security Institutions (NADI), the main purpose of which is to facilitate the process of establishment of the ASEAN community safety.

Representatives of the Center visited RISS for the first time. During the meeting, the parties have discussed the main activities of research organizations and the possibility of concluding bilateral agreement on scientific cooperation. The Thai delegation expressed interest in conducting joint projects on energy and maritime security and humanitarian cooperation.

Experts reviewed the main directions of the Russian foreign policy in Asia and noted the intensification of cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries in recent years. The meeting participants expressed hope for further collaboration between RISS and the Thai Strategic Studies Center.
