Kozin presented a report focused on the issue of strengthening security in the Asia-Pacific region «Future threats for global strategic stability», to which he attributed the prospective military development areas where the US intends to occupy a leading position in the coming decades: complete update of strategic offensive nuclear triad; creation of new tactical bombs; further development of the global antimissile defense system, the base of which will be shock combat sea-based components; creation of high-precision hypersonic long range weapons and space strike weapons.
RISS expert drew attention to a new phenomenon of recent years: creation of extremist-terrorist «caliphate» called «Islamic State», which has significant territorial claims to many world states, including Russia and China. He also raised diverse issues in the field of arms control, the solution of which was slowed down due to the leading countries of NATO.
Kozin emphasized the importance of further development of Russian-Chinese relations in the military-political sphere, as Moscow and Beijing are faced with similar external challenges and threats in the international arena. It was suggested to conclude a multilateral treaty on the non-use of nuclear weapons among all the nuclear states against each other.
On the opening day of the forum the defense Minister of the PRC announced the holding of joint naval exercises with the countries-members of ASEAN in the South China Sea to implement «Code to prevent accidental collisions at sea», as well as for testing the interaction during maritime search and rescue operations.
