The past year has been one of the most productive years for RISS. In the course of 2016 RISS actively strengthened and developed international cooperation. Introducing our institute and great Russia, our experts attended different events including hotspots: the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republic, Afghanistan, Iraq, or Syria.

Journalistic consultation or participation in the expert meeting – all events are very important for RISS, we approach each of them with the utmost care and responsibility.

Ali Akbar Velayati, President of Iran’s Center for Strategic Studies and advisor on international affairs to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, came to Russia by RISS invitation in February 2016, participated in our round table “Russian-Iranian cooperation in the current geopolitical environment”. RISS delegation made a return visit to Tehran in June 2016.

RISS delegation attended the ceremony marking the opening of the memorial complex at the Russian cemetery in Great Kikinda in May 2016. In the framework of the Russian days in Serbia was held a successful book presentation of RISS Director Leonid Reshetnikov: “Return to Russia. The Third Path, or the Dead Ends of Hopelessness”.

Elens Suponina, Advisor to the RISS Director, and Azhdar Kurtov, Chief Editor of RISS journal “National Strategy Issues”, met in Sofia with General Rumen Radev, President-elect of Bulgaria in November 2016. It was not only the first meeting of the newly elected President with the think tank, but also his first foreign contact. President of the Republic of South Ossetia Leonid Tibilov gave a lecture on “The Role of South Ossetia in strengthening Russia’s geopolitical position in the Caucasus” at RISS in December 2016.

In addition, the RISS Director was awarded by the President of South Ossetia with the Order of Friendship, the medal of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic “For strengthening of the international cooperation”, and other awards.

In the past year RISS also successfully presented the monograph of Head of European Countries Sector Lyudmila Vorobyova “The Baltic Question: Estonian Direction”, a collective study of global media space “Metamorphosis of the world. The new geopolitical role of Russia”, and other books written by RISS experts. RISS also took part in the largest book fair on Red Square for the first time, as well as in book forum in Sevastopol.
