Decreased intensity of shelling gives hope for peace in Donbass
The intensity of shelling on the contact line between the Kiev troops and the Donbass forces has significantly declined after a new ceasefire came into effect on July 21, the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic Deputy Militia Chief Eduard Basurin told Izvestia. Although shelling is still on, there is a positive dynamic giving hope that soon peace will be brought to the region, Basurin said.
Five years of Kiev's war against Donbass
Kiev has been fighting against Donbass for five years. RISS expert Oleg Nemensky believes that now Ukraine no longer needs Donbass. "The only option that would suit Kiev is a blitzkrieg in the spring of 2014. Ukraine has neither the money nor the ability to restore republics of Donetsk and Luhansk. Kiev also doesn't need people that live there," he said.
Peacekeeping mission in Donbass would mean an end to the republics
Should peacekeepers be deployed in Donbass, the Lugansk and Donetsk people’s republics will be dismantled. However, there are no real prerequisites for such a scenario and such discussions are just a part of some diplomatic game, said experts interviewed by EADaily.
Reintegration law paved the way for Ukraine’s disintegration
The signing of Donbass reintegration law by Ukraine’s President P.Poroshenko is a critical stage of Donbass conflict, said RISS expert Oleg NEMENSKY. “In fact, the Ukraine’s authorities introduced the propagandistic interpretation of the conflict. Everything that we considered earlier as the Ukrainian propaganda now has the status of obligatory interpretation,” he stressed.
